The Motorola XOOM tablet is one of the tablet PC’s to challenge the Apple iPad’s domination. It features the Android 3.0 Honeycomb operating system. Android OS is applied to numerous other tablet computers and mobile phones in response to Apple’s rule over the market for tablet PC’s and smart phones.

The XOOm tablet comes in two variants. The WiFi only model is available at $499 and the GSM plus CDMA model is at $699. Having a GSM and CDMA functionality means the tablet can be used with mobile phone services and the Internet, respectively.

Aside from the Android system, additional features include a wide 10.1 inches HD screen display with a 1280 by 800 pixel resolution, a dual core 1 GHz processor and an internal RAM of 1 GB with a 32 GB optional memory on board, and 2 video cameras with 2 mega pixels (MP) in front and 5 MP at the back.  Video recording and playback is at 1080p HD. This breakthrough is now being offered by major cellular service providers in the U.S. The upgrade to 4G/LTE in the Motorola XOOM is made possible through a Verizon Wireless plan.

Applications can be downloaded and installed from different sources online. These include the Adobe Flash Player, CNN, games and services from Google such as Google Maps and eBooks as well as other applications available via the Android resource.

Navigation features a full touch screen QWERTY keypad which you can zoom by pinching. Dock support can be done in various ways and positions.

The tablet is measured at 24.9 cm. in height, 16.78 cm. in width, and 1.29 cm. in diameter with a weight of 730 g.

The Motorola XOOM’s WiFi only version is available through major stores and online. Amazon.com pioneers its Internet sales offering. Other stores where its offered include Best Buy, RadioShack, Costco, Walmart, Staples, and Sam’s Club.
