A Review on the Brother SE400 Computerized Embroidery and Sewing Machine Product

Brother SE400 Computerized Sewing and Embroidery Machine

With Project Runway Season 10 coming to a close, I’d like to review one of the brands used on the show, Brother and their SE400 Computerized Embroidery and Sewing Machine.

While most think that sewing machines are outdated, one of Brother’s products proves it wrong. The Brother SE400 Computerized Embroidery and Sewing Machine product allows personal sewing projects completed with ease. While some do not even bother having a sewing machine at all, this product is a must have at home for women, children, and everyone. It is useful for mending clothes and other items, for home improvement decorations, school projects, and can even help with starting a small business.

Product Description

The SE400 provides an option for handmade items sewn with a professional finishing look without spending much. It comes with embroidery designs with lettering fonts, sewing stitches, and frame pattern combinations.

The product also has computer connectivity with an LCD touch screen for display, a backlit, an automatic needle threading as well as a bobbin system, and a push button thread cutter.

The item may also come with a 25 year warranty depending on where it is purchased.

While most dread the use of sewing machines, the Brother SE400 makes sewing as well as embroidery easy, fun, and simple.  Sewing and embroidery is fulfilling with this machine’s built in designs and stitches. There are 70 embroidery designs to choose from as well as 5 embroidery lettering fonts. Being computerized, designs can also be easily integrated from the computer to the embroidery itself.

There are also 67 sewing stitches which come with 98 functions for stitches and 120 frame patterns where combinations can be made from. About 10 styles for each type of stitches are available. These include one step button holes, straight, zigzag, stretch, patchwork, quilting, blind hem, over casting, eyelet, smocking, decorative, heir loom, applique, and side cutter stitches.

Styles and stitches are modified or made by adjusting width and height. They can also be achieved by applying different stitch functions such as a multi-directional, a twin, and/or a mirror.

The 120 frame patterns on the other hand come from a total of 10 designs available in 12 different stitches. Designs are of diamonds, squares, circle, and so on. 12 various stitches are those mentioned earlier.

While manual embroidering permits only what can be handled by both hands, this machine provides a large 4 x 4 (in inches) area for embroidery. Designs of flowers, plants, birds, animals, and many others are included in the 70 built in design choices. These designs can even be printed with names and other imprints of which 5 different fonts can be chosen from.

The display screen is of LCD and can be maneuvered with an up to date touch screen technology. The same screen also shows how long it will take to finish the embroidery designs.

This sewing and embroidery machine not only lets the user experience become fun but also simplifies all tasks and makes them easy. Threading needles have never been faster with its automatic needle threading system. The drop in top bobbin of Quick Set TM allows an easy bobbin winding system as well.

While most sewing machines normally offer seven presser feet options, this embroidery and sewing machine provides eight different snap on options. These include Buttonhole, Button Fitting, Zipper, Zigzag, Overcasting, Monogramming, Blind Stitch, and the Embroidery foot. The presser foot also comes with three easy to navigate settings: up, down, and extra up for sewing heavy fabrics.

Another built in feature, the thread cutter is designed to conveniently cut thread with a push button option.

You can also sew or embroider at any time or light condition without straining your eyes. A back lit is provided for better lighting.

Despite many pro’s related to this product, there are also a few cons. One of which has something to do with memory. Although the item can be connected to any type of computer, its memory is limited to only 512 kb of data. An easy fix would be to purchase a compatible memory card with higher data storage limit capacity. If not, just save all files to the computer instead.

The Brother SE400 Computerized Embroidery and Sewing Machine is a must have equipment at home most especially if you love to sew and embroider.
